Broader term. Means full member of nation state. Can be gained by birth or through naturalization.
Naturalization
Specific process of becoming citizen after NOT being born there. Immigrant applies for citizenship = naturalization.
Example
Canadian citizen by birth = has citizenship (not naturalized). Immigrant becomes Canadian citizen = naturalized citizenship.
