US Naturalization Ceremony: The Final Step to Citizenship

Getting Your Ceremony Date

After passing interview and background check, USCIS schedules a naturalization ceremony (called 'oath ceremony'). You'll receive a letter with date and time. These typically happen monthly at local USCIS offices.

The Ceremony Format

You arrive early. Sit with others becoming citizens. Judge or official presides. Everyone takes the Oath of Allegiance together. You raise your hand and swear. No individual ceremoniesβ€”it's a group event.

The Oath of Allegiance

'I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty...' You swear to support the US Constitution. It's the same oath for everyone.

After the Oath

USCIS hands you a Certificate of Naturalization. This is your proof of citizenship. You're officially American. Apply for a US passport immediately. Your family gets photos. It's quick but profoundβ€”you're done.
